IPA Charities Supports Hispanic Heritage Organization

IPA Charities has contributed $10,000 to the Hispanic Heritage Organization and $5,000 to the organization’s 2007 Essay Contest for Hispanic Heritage Month. IPA Charities was named as a VIP Sponsor and an Essay Co-Sponsor.

Congress first proclaimed National Hispanic Heritage Month in September of 1968. Since that time, National Hispanic Heritage Month has taken place annually from September 15th to October 15th. Many of the events that take place during this timeframe provide opportunities to celebrate, experience and enjoy the rich Latino culture and heritage including its wonderful art, food, history and music.

The Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest is open to all students in the state of Illinois from grades four through 12 in addition to college and adult education students. This year’s essay topic was, "How I would get the local government involved in improving my community." Winners were announced on September 7, 2007 during the Hispanic Heritage Organization’s opening ceremony. Each year, 46 children participate in the opening ceremony by representing 23 Latin countries.

"Because of your generous support we are expecting to exceed last year’s participation of over 900 children in the Hispanic Heritage Essay Contest," said Mary Ellen Castroverde, Event Coordinator. "This wonderful event has given many individuals the opportunity to become aware of our different Latin cultures."

The Hispanic Heritage Organization is a non-profit organization promoting understanding and appreciation of the Latino culture through a variety of educational initiatives such as special events.
